A field of wild Mexican Gold Poppies (Eschscholzia californica spp. mexicana) announces that Spring is here in southwestern New Mexico. This festive occasion isn't seen every year, the seeds of the poppy may lay dormant until conditions are right. After a winter with a good amount of moisture being seen in this regain the poppies come to life and the high desert of Luna county New Mexico is bursting with color.
